The Assessment of Biopsychosocial Needs in the Elderly Period

The research “BIO-PSYCHO-SOCIAL Needs Assessment in Old Age” emphasizes determining the expectations and needs of elderly individuals and producing solutions for these needs due to the continuous increase in the elderly population today.

It reveals the necessity of a multifaceted research to understand the needs of the elderly, to find solutions to their problems and to plan appropriate services for the elderly. In particular, it points to the necessity of conducting studies in the field of social work in order to understand the cognitive, psychological and social functionality of elderly individuals who spend daytime hours alone or live alone, to determine their needs based on their experiences and to produce solutions. In this context, the “Psychosocial Support Project for Older Persons” was initiated in cooperation with the neighborhood headmen in Ayrancı district of Çankaya district in Ankara in order to obtain clear and reliable data on the situation of the elderly population. Within the scope of the project, the “Multidimensional Observation Scale for Elderly Individuals”, which has been determined to be reliable and used to determine the needs of elderly individuals in a multidimensional way, will be used. This project is based on collecting scientific data for future projects. These data will provide a valuable resource for future projects aiming to improve the quality of life of older people in society. The results of the project and the social life experiences of the elderly will provide guidance for society to provide more support and services to the elderly.
